The Four Important Functions of Alloy Resistors

Writer:microhm Page View:Date:2019-01-11
The most common alloy resistors include surface mount type and lead type. Some instrumentations and circuit equipments require high precision alloy resistors. This type of high precision alloy resistors feature higher precision and lower temperature drift. The metal alloy resistors mainly have below 4 functions.

First, shunt effect
Resistors have the function of shunt, so do the alloy resistors. For example, when we put the alloy resistor in parallel with a LED bulb in the circuit, the voltage at both ends of the alloy resistor and the voltage at the end of the bulb will be the same. And the sum of the current flowing through the alloy resistance and the current flowing through the bulb is equal to the total current flowing through the alloy resistance and the bulb,
Many examples show that the alloy resistance acts as a shunt in the circuit.

Secondly, impedance matching
We know that impedance matching can be realized by changing the impedance. Alloy resistance can realize the function of impedance matching. In order to obtain a state of maximum power output, some methods are used to adapt the load impedance to the internal impedance of the excitation source in general impedance matching in the process of signal transmission. The alloy resistor can be used to match the impedance well.

Third, dividing the voltage in a circuit.
The principle of the alloy resistor is the same as the shunt. We can link the alloy resistor to other components. In series in LED circuits, the same current flows through the alloy resistor and the illumination, the alloy resistance and the corresponding voltage of the illumination are equal to the total voltage of the alloy resistor and illumination as a whole from both ends. The alloy resistor realizes the voltage division in the circuit, which can protect the LED bulb from damage.

Fourth, filter effect
In the infinite cycle of charge and discharge, the function of alloy resistance is used as filter effect.

In fact, in many cases, the function of alloy resistance is very similar to that of ordinary resistance. The main difference in alloy resistance is that its service life is much longer than that of ordinary resistance, which benefit from the use of copper manganese alloy and copper nickel alloy. Metal resistors are mainly applied in instrumentations and precision equipments, the application range is getting broader.
