Shunts' Current Sense Technology and Merits

Writer:Microhm Page View:Date:2019-04-29
Shunts feature the characteristics of small size, offset free, very low noise, excellent linearity, high long-term stability, low TCR and high precision. Current measurement principle of shunts is also Ohm's law, i.e I=V/R. Temperature, long-term stability, inductance and thermal EMF are the main influences of changing resistors' resistance and voltage. Microhm's precision shunt resistors minimize the effects of external factors on themselves.

Microhm shunts cover a full range of size from 0805,1206 to 8420, 8518, which stamped by composite materials - coppers on both sides and MnCu, NiCrAl or FeCrAl in the middle. By the technology of high-energy electron beam welding, the soldering seam is compact and flat. Both the technology and materials ensure that the shunt's resistance is as low as 100μΩ to 10 mOhm, while the power is up to 36W.

Best alloy materials using in Microhm resistive elements guarantee lower TCR. Thinner surface mount designs help to reduce the bending of the current path so as to decrease the inductance value. Shunt adopting ultra-low thermal EMF against copper help to eliminate thermal EMF which can seriously affect the current sense effect and enable the current sense in BMS and other applications.
