What Type of Resistor is Best Suited for Applying a Resistor to a Multimeter?

Writer:Microhm Page View:Date:2018-12-07
The multimeter is an indispensable measuring instrument for engineers. In many projects, a multimeter is needed for measurement. We know that the multimeter is a multi-function, multi-range measuring instrument. The general multimeter can measure DC current, DC voltage, AC current, AC voltage, resistance and audio level, etc., and some can also measure AC current, capacitance and inductance. And some parameters of the semiconductor. It can be said that it is truly universal, and some resistors are usually used in it.

So what type of resistor is the most suitable for the multimeter? With this problem we carefully analyze and study, I have the following types of resistance used in the multimeter as follows:
 First, select the resistance according to the multimeter level;
 Multimeters also have many grades, some have high precision and low precision. Multimeter manufacturers choose the resistors according to the level of the multimeter. Generally, they use 1/4 or 1/5 of the grade, such as 0.5% of 2.5. Level 1 selects a resistance type such as 0.2% or 0.25%.

Second, the maximum use of wirewound resistors in the multimeter;
 Wirewound resistors are the best and most resistant type in the multimeter production process. Due to the stable winding resistance and small temperature coefficient, high-impedance multimeters are used less, but most of them are low-resistance wirewound resistors.

Third, the multimeter used for voltage measurement, etc. requires a high resistance value of 3M to 5M, and the manufacturer generally selects a metal film resistor. The high-resistance and high-precision multimeter uses a metal film resistor, and generally requires a high-resistance film and a large-volume type of resistor, and a conventional precision metal film is suitable for use in such a multimeter.

The above points are that we often use the resistors in the multimeter. These types of resistors are used in the universal standard of different brands. The quality of these resistors directly affects the measurement accuracy and service life of the universal standard. All production multimeters manufacturers often use large brand resistors.
